Although Chandler graduated from Transylvania University, many Centre alums considered him one of them. He played quarterback on Transylvania football teams that Centre, and won the admiration of many Centre fans for his style of play. While attending Harvard Law school, Chandler assisted the Centre football team in its games with that school. After returning to Kentucky, Centre’s athletic officials employed Chandler to scout opposing teams. In 1927 and 1928 he was coach of Centre’s freshmen teams.
